What are the system requirements for using Hue Animation Studio on a Windows PC?

A sound card and speakers (recommended 16 bit or higher) are also required for using the built-in audio recording options.

What are the requirements for using Hue Animation Studio on a Mac?

Please note that when using OS X some of the standalone camera functions may not be supported, such as the YUY2 format, snapshot, interpolation, special effects, face tracking and digital zoom features. All of the animation features are available on OS X.

What comes in the box?

How do I attach the Hue webcam to my computer?

You can connect the camera base to the computer by the USB cable, or simply unplug the webcam from its base and connect it directly to a USB port by its flexible neck – great for laptops or for animating at tricky angles! The base is simply an easy way to have the camera stand upright on its own on a desktop or other flat surface.

For complex animation projects, temporarily fixing the base to your work surface with masking tape may help keep it extra steady.

Does the Hue webcam support regular video conferencing or picture editing software?

The Hue webcam works with a wide range of video conferencing and picture editing software. Any software that is designed to work with a USB camera should work using Hue as its video input source.

Can I video chat with Hue?

Yes! As well as being part of Hue Animation Studio, the Hue webcam can be used separately for video chat, visualisation or simply recording real time videos. Hue works with popular third party video chat software such as Skype™ (Windows/Mac), AIM® (Windows only), Windows Live™ Messenger (Windows only) and Yahoo!® Messenger (Windows/Mac). Pick which video chat network you wish to join, download the software from their website and follow their setup instructions. Make sure you set the USB webcam as your camera and microphone in the new program's settings, then you're ready to chat!

You can even send your saved animation projects to your video chat contacts at the same time over the video chat network.

Can I use the Hue webcam with Skype?

Yes! Hue is compatible out of the box with Skype for Windows and Mac OS X. As soon as you connect Hue to the computer, it is ready to start free video chats worldwide on the Skype network.

Can I use the Hue webcam with other animation software?

Yes! Any software that is designed to work with a USB camera should work using Hue as its video input source. We hope though that you’ll quickly find that the Hue Animation Studio is even better than other video packages.

Can I take still pictures with the Hue webcam?

Hue supports taking still pictures. On Window PCs, the button on the back of the camera will launch the Snapshot function if the camera is in use. Hue cannot take pictures when not plugged into a computer and does not have internal storage memory to save images.

Mac users will find that Hue is fully compatible with Photo Booth. Alternatively, to take a picture of the webcam video window at any time, press Command+Shift+4 together, then the Space Bar - a camera icon will appear over your mouse pointer ready for you to click the window you want to snapshot.

Can I use the Hue webcam as a document camera or visualiser as well?

We have had feedback from many educators who are using Hue as a document camera in their classrooms with great success. Because the webcam is plug and play and so compact, it is perfect for use alongside smartboards and interactive whiteboards to show documents, science experiences or artwork to the class. The extra software which comes with Hue will display a live video image on your screen which you can then project through the computer as normal. Handy between your animation projects!

Do I need a separate microphone to make videos with Hue Animation Studio?

Hue Animation Studio’s camera comes with a built-in microphone.

Where can I download software updates for Hue Animation Studio?

Every copy of Hue Animation Studio comes with an installation CD for either Windows 7/Vista/XP and Mac OS X. Updated software and extra tools can be downloaded from the Support section of the website.

How do I install Hue Animation Studio on my Windows PC?

The webcam will automatically be installed when you connect it to your computer. To install the animation software, insert your CD and follow the instructions on screen.

If the CD does not start automatically, browse to it in My Computer and double click Setup.exe. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Both the animation software and optional video software packages can be installed independently.

Once you have installed the animation software, it will be available in All Programs in your start menu. For a full, in-depth user guide to the animation software, open the program and either click on the Help menu in the toolbar and select Contents, or press F1. An online video tutorial can also be launched from the same Help menu.

The first time that you open the animation software, you will be asked whether you would like to enter your registration key or use the trial version. Your registration key is on your Hue Animation Studio box. If you decide not to enter your key, you will be reminded again the next time you open the software. After 30 days the trial version will stop working and it will be necessary to enter the registration key to continue.

What is AMCap?

AMCap is a program installed with Hue Animation Studio on Windows systems. You may use it to take still pictures or record video using the Hue webcam. AMCap is not required to use Hue Animation Studio and can be uninstalled or deleted if preferred. To remove the software from your system:
1. Delete the AMCap shortcut from your desktop
2. Go to your Windows install drive (the C: drive by default) and delete the program called amcap.exe in the Windows folder.

How do I install Hue Animation Studio on my Mac?

Insert the Hue Animation Studio software CD into your computer. When it appears on the desktop, open the CD and click the DMG file to see the installation window. Follow the on screen instructions to install the software by dragging the animation software to your Applications folder.

You can then connect the Hue webcam to an available USB port on your computer and launch the software from Applications (or Spotlight). The animation software can be installed at any time, whether the camera is connected or not.

What is WebCam Monitor?

WebCam Monitor is the Mac software installed with the webcam instead of AMCap. You can use it to record real time videos using the Hue webcam. If you’d prefer not to use it, WebCam Monitor can be deleted from your Applications folder at any time without affecting your animation software.

What else can I do with Hue Animation Studio?

We have heard from fans using HUE with great success as a visualiser, document camera, vlog camera and even for lunar photography. Let us know how you use yours!

Is Hue Animation Studio only for animating modelling clay?

You can animate anything you can see using stop motion techniques; drawings, toys, household objects and even real people. We recommend modelling clay as it can be shaped into anything you can imagine, but if you want to try something more ambitious there are no limitations!

One fantastic use for stop motion animation is to create a time lapse video, taking pictures of a slow moving scene or object over a long period of time to show how it changes. You can even make a stop motion animation project showing how you age every day or demonstrating how a plant grows.

We are unable to offer exchanges for a different version of Hue Animation Studio. Windows product keys will not work on the Mac version. Please carefully check which version you need prior to purchase.

Will the Windows version of Hue Animation Studio work on Windows 2000?

Hue Animation Studio is only compatible with Windows XP (Service Pack 2) or later. Earlier versions of Windows are not able to use plug and play video devices, and are no longer supported by Microsoft.

Will the Mac version of Hue Animation Studio work on OS X 10.3 or earlier?

Hue Animation Studio is only compatible with Mac OS X 10.4.3 (Tiger) or later. Earlier versions of Mac OS X are not able to use plug and play video devices and no longer receive updates from Apple.

I can’t find my Hue Animation Studio serial key.

Your serial key for the stop motion animation software will be attached to your Hue Animation Studio box. We are unable to send reminders of your unique serial code, so please keep it safe.

I can’t find my Hue Animation Studio software CD.

Please download the missing software from the Support page and activate it with your unique serial key from your original box.

Our modelling clay is supplied by Stadium Crayons, a UK company. It bears a CE mark and is safe for use for ages three and up.
